Edward George "Ted" Turner

Edward George Turner, known affectionately to his family and friends as Ted, was a kind hearted, gregarious, right jolly English gent, loved by all who knew him. He was born on the 27th of June 1911 at Blake Cottage, Horn Street in Winslow, Buckinghamshire, where his father was employed as head groom to Mr Gosling of Blake House.

    • William was one of the first policemen in England. On 12 April 1861, at the age of 20, [person:HeShe] joined the fledgling Peterborough Liberty Police as a 3rd Class Constable . He was promoted less than a year later to 1st Class Constable, and served from that point until 1868 in Barnack. He returned to Peterborough and achieved the rank of 2nd Class Sergeant on 9 February 1868, and a year later was promoted to 1st class Sergeant. He resigned from the Liberty Police on 30th September 1874 and the next day he joined the newly formed Peterborough City Police Department, where he served as Sergeant of Police until he retired on pension on 3rd September 1896.
