I just had to comment - I saw the photo of your grandparents in a Geneabloggers pin and was struck by how much your grandfather on the left looks like my father. They could have been twins.

And yes, you are making sense.

Hi Jamie, Always nice to here from another Denchfield cousin!! My research shows Richard Denchfield married Sarah Ann Durley at Whitchurch, Bucks, on 18 November 1833. They were both of Whitchurch and were married by Banns. Witnesses were Thomas and Mary Ann Denchfield.

For source, see Ecclesiastical events in Buckinghamshire County:

Buckinghamshire Family History Society (BFHS). (Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, U.K.). PDF reporting filtered search of Denchfield (and variants) marriages for 1550-1840 of the society's parish register databases. 2010. Author's files.

I'm happy to share whatever I have on this family. Feel free to send an email via the contact tab at the top of the screen :-)

My researched Denchfield line is in the US with the emigration of Joseph Denchfield (b1842). His parents were Richard Denchfield (b1808) and Sarah Ann Durley of Whitechurch, Buckinghamshire married about 1835. Any assistance tracing their families before that time would be appreciated.

Dear Simon Collcutt,

I am writing a biography of the architect Thomas Edward Collcutt(1840-1924) so I am very interested in your family connection and your mention of having some of Collcutt's drawings. Can you tell me anything about the family and early life of Thomas? I would love to see the drawings!

Best Wishes,

Martin O'Rourke

Thank you for replying to my question -sorry to be so slow in replying. I am particularly interested in Thomas Edward Colcutt thearchitect (1840-1924) I understand that his family were very much Oxford based and many seem to have been college servants, particularly at St Johns. I would like to understand how Thomas rose from such relatively humble origins to being something of a star architect.
Do you know where in Jericho Thomas was born or any other revealing family information.

Best Regards,

Martin

Hi Brian,

I'm glad you found my blog! I find my Oxford ancestors fascinating, particularly the Collcutt and Collins families. I'm eternally grateful that they were very concerned with having their estates in order - such a wealth of information in their wills. The Reverend Basely is interesting. I've often wondered if his insanity might have had something to do with a change in his faith, rather than a mental illness...I'm sure somewhere there is a doctor's account of it. I'd love to see his watercolors!! Unfortunately I can't help you at all with Sarah Hewitt. But take a look around my site, and if there's anything you have questions about, or any errors that stand out, please let me know :-)

Good luck!

HI Catherine,

I'm sorry to say that I don't know when the Turner's sold the shop. I'm descended from a brother who did not stay in the family business, so I've never pursued Charles Jr. If I come across anything, I'll let you know.
