I’d like to introduce…

Edward George "Ted" Turner

Edward George Turner, known affectionately to his family and friends as Ted, was a kind hearted, gregarious, right jolly English gent, loved by all who knew him. He was born on the 27th of June 1911 at Blake Cottage, Horn Street in Winslow, Buckinghamshire, where his father was employed as head groom to Mr Gosling of Blake House.

And His Lovely Wife…

TIme to take a breath...

I finished the Boston University Certificate of Genealogical Research program last night!!!! It’s been a hectic and at times stressful 14 weeks but I’m so glad I did it. I’ve learned so much, discovered areas I’m weak in and need to improve, seen how citations are REALLY supposed to look (!), and feel ready to tackle the long process of becoming a certified professional genealogist.

In no particular order, here are some to-do list items I’m hoping to tackle sooner rather than later. (My immediate goal is to keep the momentum going now that the BU program is behind me):

  • Become a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists DONE!!!
  • Join the Great Lakes Chapter of the APG
  • Get on the waiting list for a ProGen study group (Just emailed the coordinator!!!!)
  • Blog three times a week
  • Complete NGS home study lessons 7&8 by June 1st.
  • Increase my Erie County History Society volunteer days in the Library & Archives from 1 to 2  a week
  • Write an article for the Erie Society for Genealogical Society’s quarterly publication
  • Correct the citations on the Turner Collins Genealogy (one generation per week)
  • Begin applying standards of proof to my existing tree, one branch at a time…planning to start with the Denchfields
  • Solve the genealogical puzzle of the multitude of John Denchfields who married women named Mary in North Marston, Bucks, in the 18th century.
  • Organize and file the 10,000 pieces of loose papers that have been floating around my house the last three months

Hmmmmm…..is this too ambitious??

  • Congratulations! I took the online version last Spring and I loved it!

  • Yay, Claire, we did it! Wow, very ambitious list. Mine is much shorter and I admit I’m taking some time to put the rest of my life back in order. The course really gives clarity and focus, don’t you think? I feel so much more in control now and able to drill down to the problems of identity and kinship that need attention. It was great to meet you and travel this journey together. I’ll be watching via my blog reader and look forward to meeting you some day!

Hi Kathryn :-) Isn’t it a great feeling of accomplishment! And you’re right about the clarity and focus – I am really looking forward to going through my personal research and applying our newly learned skills to some of the puzzles that I haven’t had any luck solving till now.

Stay in touch :-) Maybe we can meet up at a conference, or if you should find yourself in Johnstown for a visit drop me an email :-)

  • Congratulations, Claire – great accomplishment!
